Users:

The Uzbekistani Som (UZS) is the official currency of Uzbekistan. It is the legal tender used for all transactions within the country.

History:

The Uzbekistani Som has undergone several changes in its history. It was first introduced in 1993, replacing the Russian Ruble after Uzbekistan gained independence from the Soviet Union.

Since its introduction, the currency has undergone redenominations to simplify transactions and manage inflation. The most recent redenomination took place in 2017 when the old Sum (UZS) was replaced by the new Som (UZS) at a rate of 1:1000. This means that 1 new Som is equal to 1000 old Sum.

Coins and Banknotes:

The Uzbekistani Som is subdivided into 100 tiyin, although tiyin coins are no longer used due to their low value.

Coins:

Coins currently in circulation are 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, and 500 Soms.

Banknotes:

The most commonly used banknotes are 1000, 5000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, and 100,000 Soms.

Each banknote typically features important cultural and historical symbols of Uzbekistan.
